Our Approach

Language. Culture. Community.

At the PLC, we want to be a place where your child is excited to come and learn the Portuguese language. In order to make our classes highly engaging and interactive while learning the basics of the Portuguese language, we emphasize culture and community in our activities. Throughout the year, we celebrate holidays such as Dia de São Martinho, Pão-por-Deus, Carnaval, and o 25 de Abril, among other celebrations and thematic classes, to get the students speaking the language. We also take our students on small trips to the Portuguese bakery or local Portuguese establishments to not only encourage them to practice the language, but to realize the value of our Portuguese community in East Providence.

Thanks to the generous support of the Instituto Camões, we also have textbooks that we follow. These are given to the student at the beginning of the school year and are their's to keep. About once a year, we also are lucky to host children's writers visiting from Portugal.
